Engine Company 3 of the Jericho Fire Department is currently seeking volunteers who can sacrifice a few hours per week to help others in an emergency when they need help the most. Just think about the effect you can have in a life or death situation!
We will provide the knowledge and training to make a difference in someone's life. All we need from you is the desire to help.
Applications for membership are accepted from all individuals ages 18 and older. Juniors may apply for membership at ages 13—17.
Not a Jericho resident? No problem! We have an Out of District Program for residents of other towns.
After submitting your application, you will have a meeting with the Recruitment Committee and an interview with the Chief's Office.
During these meetings, we will give you an orientation to the overall goals and objectives of the Jericho Fire Department, the organizational structure, our training and participation requirements, etc.
Following the interview, you will submit an application form for approval and a background check. The Board of Fire Commissioners will review your application.
If your application is approved, we will schedule your physical for a department physical evaluation which includes an electro-cardiogram, pulmonary function test, a blood/urine test, including a drug screen.
All tests are kept confidential.
A recruit determined to be medically fit for duty will be sworn in by the Board of Fire Commissioners at a regularly scheduled meeting and assigned a probationary duty in the fire or rescue company.
In addition to the personal rewards of special service to the community, volunteer firefighters enjoy several tangible benefits.
